I decided to pick mulberries from our tree this morning
and I had a hardworking crew of four to help.
Some pickers,
however,
were counterproductive.
Lesson for today: take the ones who don’t care for mulberries.
More berries land in the bowl that way.

ReplyDeleteWe've done tons of mulberry picking at Jay's folks. A good way to get a lot of them is to put sheets under the tree and shake it! Then sort out the bad/not ripe ones. We also soaked them for awhile in big bowls to kill any bugs, then freeze them on cookie sheets and put in baggies when frozen!
ReplyDeleteOurs are almost ready to pick. Right now they are simply unripe little things waiting to fall in my shirt when I mow.

Oh, you aren't kidding! One fell between me and the seat last time I mowed. When I finished I had a giant purple stain on my backside. I was glad my children kindly pointed it out to me before I went to town that way! We made syrup with the berries yesterday. After searching and searching for a recipe without success, I used about 4 cups of berries, 1.5 cups of sugar, 1 cup of lemon juice, 4 cups of water and a few tablespoons of cornstarch, boiled for a few minutes and called it good enough. It was a big hit on waffles.
